This is another holiday staple at our house, but it really is so good and easy (and mostly healthy depending upon the sweetener type and amount), that it can be made anytime of the year.
You can use a hand potato masher to get the consistency of your choice for this Pear Cranberry Sauce recipe to appeal to your family...including your picky eater who may actually be inclined to do some 'Brave Tasting'. :)

Pear Cranberry Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups peeled and cubed ripe pears (about 3 medium)
1 cup water
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cinnamon stick (3 inches) broken in half
1 package (12 ounces) fresh or frozen cranberries
1 to 1 1/4 cups sugar (I use 1 cup pure maple syrup)
Instructions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil and then simmer (uncovered) for approximately 20 minutes, stirring often. Cranberries will have popped and sauce will be slightly thickened.
2. Discard cinnamon sticks. Mash sauce if desired. Cool. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Can be made a day or 2 in advance.
